Our Furry Friends Emily & Bow
The team at Little BigPaw are all animal lovers, and we share our homes with either cats or dogs. There are also a few lambs dotted around too!
In this Blog, we learn a Little more about our Sales and Public Relations Manager, Emily and her cat (and top company model!) Bow.
Emily, what is life like living with Bow?
A house is not a home without a cat. And I very much agree with that statement. I adopted Bow roughly a month after buying my first home in 2016.
Bow is a domestic, long haired cat – she is very fluffy! My neighbours often comment about how beautiful she is and ask if she is a Pedigree. I’m not sure but she looks like she could potentially have some Ragdoll or Maine Coon genes.
I adopted Bow from a local rescue centre, where other family pets have also been rehomed from. It’s great to be able to give a cat or dog a second chance.
Bow is great company but also the boss of the house – dictating when Breakfast and Dinner time is… I waved goodbye to lie ins when she moved in with me! She is a very friendly cat and always says hello to visitors. The only negative I can think of is that she isn’t the biggest fan of being brushed and with all that fur it can be a problem!
Do you have any tips for someone looking to adopt a rescue pet?
Always think carefully about your decision and whether you have the time to dedicate to a new dog or cat. Even cats require attention, even the most aloof ones!
One thing I did when rehoming Bow was to take a blanket from my house to the Rescue, so she could get used to the smell of me and the house before she came home. This helped Bow to settle in relatively quickly.
I would also advise to try and restrict your new furry family member to one room of the house initially, keep their food in this room too. Joining a new family and being in a new home can be overwhelming so it’s best they’re introduced to each part of the new house gradually.
Also, it’s best to stick with the same diet your pet has been fed at the Rescue centre especially for the first couple of weeks. If you do want to change their food, I’d recommend introducing this gradually by adding 10% of their new food, whilst reducing their existing food by 10% over a period of 10 – 14 days.
What is Bow’s favourite Little BigPaw product?
Bow loves our Gourmet Atlantic Tuna Mousse, this is her favourite flavour. However she isn’t a fussy cat and during product development of our Oven Baked treats for Dogs she even got involved in the feeding trials! She has her paws crossed one day we will make a cat equivalent.
